The workshop “Debating stability in North Africa, the Sahel and Horn of Africa: How transnational dynamics and geopolitics impact governance and development” marks a preliminary step to achieving the goal of reconnecting geopolitical spaces “north and south of the Sahara”, while bridging organizational silos affecting policy response. Building on integrated policy and interdisciplinary expertise, authors encourage a critical review of the mainstream approach to assess governance, development and security issues in Africa. Fostering greater coordination has the potential to provide meaningful highlights for a future research agenda, and a wider debate on stability policy in Africa.

The workshop is organized by Luigi Narbone (European University Institute, Middle East Directions), Francesco Strazzari (Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna) and Giovanni Faleg (European Union Institute for Security Studies, Sub-saharan Africa desk).
